Kids Summer Program

11 Milk cows with kids Brisbane

Kids’ Farm Camp allows children to experience all the workings of a small, organic, diversified farm. They learn how a seed can sprout and grow into a nutritious and delicious vegetable; when and how to plant it. Pigs, sheep, honey bees, ducks and laying hens are all part of a camper’s daily experience at the farm. Campers participate in farm chores such as weeding, composting, harvesting, collecting eggs, feeding the pigs, and planting seedlings. They will explore the ecosystem of the irrigation ditches and wild-craft seeds for identification as well as art projects. Each week concludes with a gathering of the entire farm staff and campers to share a lunch of simple, delicious farm food prepared by the children. The campers display their art, and share their knowledge of farming and foods in a play or puppet performance.

Farm Camp Activities include:

The Giving Garden Making & planting beds, adding compost, watering, weeding, harvesting, eating and observing. The children will cook with food that they help to grow in this garden as well as food from the main farm fields.

Farm Animals Feeding and watering the chickens & ducks, refilling nesting boxes, collecting chicken eggs, feeding the pigs, herding the sheep and observing the honey bee hives.

Arts & Crafts Learning to make corn stock dolls, nature journals, vegetable stamps, mobiles and collages with found objects. Chicken feathers, sheep wool and honey comb are often favorite art and craft project materials.

Stories & Songs Enjoy and relax during the heat of the day under the fruit trees with new stories and puppet shows we create and share together.

With the close guidance of our staff, children develop a deeper sense of community through shared work in the Giving Garden, with the farm animals, by making arts & crafts using natural fibers, and of course through play, puppet shows and stories. The week of camp ends with the children harvesting vegetables from the Giving Garden and preparing lunch for the whole farm to enjoy together, bringing their farm experience full circle from the garden to the table.
